Richmond Highway is a vibrant business community with six major commercial nodes along a seven and a half mile stretch of Rt.1 in Alexandria, VA. Each of these commercial areas has a unique identity, and the SFDC Wayfinding Program is intended to create a consistent and identifiable message as travelers pass through each area along the highway and, ultimately, arrive at their destination.

 

The design combines a historic feel with modern detailing that emphasizes the area's past and future. The color palette is pulled from George Washington's Mt. Vernon Estate, a major destination for travelers on the Highway. Metal details on the the signs reflect the architecture of the area and graphic treatments on the backs of signs add a modern twist to historic imagery.
